Department of Botany
Plants play an essential role in human life, providing food, shelter, health benefits, and economic resources. Botany, a core scientific discipline, is dedicated to the study of plant life. Understanding plants is crucial for conserving nature and natural resources, a priority that has become increasingly significant in the face of global warming and climate change. The Botany syllabus has been thoughtfully designed to address environmental, societal, and industrial needs, and has recently been updated in accordance with the New Education Policy, integrating modern techniques and the latest scientific advancements.
Over the years, the Department of Botany has developed state-of-the-art infrastructure to support both teaching and research. The department is equipped with two sets of audio-visual facilities to enrich the learning experience. It houses three well-equipped laboratories and a dedicated plant tissue culture workstation, providing an ideal environment for hands-on learning and experimentation. These laboratories offer spacious work areas, comfortable seating, and all necessary materials including glassware, chemicals, and advanced scientific instruments.
To support self-directed learning, the department provides valuable educational resources such as charts, prepared slides, and a herbarium. A green corridor featuring a variety of indoor and outdoor plants adds to the department’s immersive learning environment. Additionally, botanical excursions and visits to seed companies are regularly organized to help students explore plant diversity and forest ecosystems, thereby nurturing research-oriented knowledge.
The department is led by a team of qualified and experienced faculty members committed to academic excellence. A key annual event, the Bloom Festival, draws enthusiastic participation from students across the college. This vibrant celebration of plant life combines education and creativity, offering students opportunities to engage in a range of interactive and meaningful activities.
In addition to the festival, the department conducts a wide array of academic and co-curricular activities throughout the year, ensuring a holistic and enriching learning experience for every student.
